OWLS 2008

This autumn there is an irruption of Tengmalm's Owls from the northern woodlands of Fennoscandia. The movements have also brought these birds to Falsterbo for the first time in 22 years. The irruption is caused by lack of food (rodents) in the forests.
Tengmalm's Owl is quite small (ca. 25 cm) breeding in abandoned woodpecker's nests or in nestboxes in the large forests.

At Falsterbo the owls are caught in mist-nets during night-time. You may also blind them with a torch light and pick them by hand.
